Summary
Creating a digital movie collection is not cheap but there are ways to keep costs down. One way is to sign up for different rewards programs. The programs each offer different ways to earn points towards free movies. Below are a few that I use that have made my collection grow over the years. Joining these programs cost you nothing.
Disney Movie Insiders (formerly Disney Movie Rewards)
Let's face it. With everything Disney owns, I would be surprised if you don't either watch or purchase a movie from this company. Disney Movie Rewards allows you to earn points by watching movies in the theater to purchasing movies.
Movies in the theater can earn you points by simply linking your Disney Movie Rewards to partners like Atom, FandangoVIP, and Regal. I used Regal when I see my daughter. The tickets purchase for a qualifying movie we added within days of the purchase to my account without me having to do anything. Also, linking to these partners can sometimes earn you points or free rewards. You can also submit your ticket stubs to the site. It typically requires you to select your movie and number of tickets to get a code that you write on those tickets. You will need to take a picture of the tickets with the code on them to confirm the purchase.
Movies purchased can also earn you points. There should be an rewards code that also doubles as the digital copy code in most cases. If you purchase from retailers like Family Video or UltraCloudHD, you can use the codes from those purchases to earn points as well. Direct digital purchases no longer earn you points which is disappointing since retailers are still wanting full price for these movies.
Now that you have earned points, what is next? The rewards program offers categories like Apparel, Blu-rays & DVDs (my personal favorite), Books & Music, Collectibles, Coupons & Discounts, Disney Experiences, Gift Cards, Movie Tickets, Printables & Activities, and Toys & Games. I like the Blu-rays & DVDs category the best because I like building my collection. These offers are constantly changing and will occasionally have sales.
What is even better is most of the Blu-Rays & DVDs will include codes to earn back the points you used to get them with. In addition, many include digital copies for you digital movie collection. Be sure to check that the digital copy says HD. I was surprised when my Toy Story Blu-Ray combo pack digital copy came and was only SD for the amount of points it took to get it.
Sony Rewards
This program was offline from fall 2018 to spring 2019 which delayed me adding this page to the blog. Like the Disney Rewards Program, you can submit movie tickets and registering disc codes to earn rewards. In addition, you can link the program to you PlayStation account. Game purchases and some game play will earn you points in this program. You can also link your Sony Credit Card or PlayStation Credit Card to earn points.
I personally like the Movie Buff pass. This pass allows you to pick a free movie from a limited selection of movies after you register five disc codes. These include movies codes you would get from Family Video or UltraCloudHD. Once you complete a pass, you will start another pass. I am currently on my Movie Buff 6 pass.
Microsoft Rewards (formerly Bing Rewards)
This program is not like Disney or Sony but I wanted to include it as it is still a way to earn points to getting free movies. Bing is Microsoft's search engine that competes with Google's search. I am not recommending Bing over Google or any other search engine. I am saying if Microsoft is willing to give you something for free then why not use it. Currently, you can earn 20 points by searching from Bing on the Edge browser on any platform, 100 points from Bing searches on any mobile browser, and 150 point from Bing searches on any computer or tablet browser. That is 270 points each day.
In addition, there are Daily sets that can earn you from 30-70 points per day. Completing each Daily set for 10 days will earn you additional points. By completing the Bing searches and the Daily sets you are earning 300+ points a day. The best offer for these points is a Microsoft Gift Card. 23000 points for $25 in Microsoft Gift Card. Because Microsoft is part of Movies Anywhere, digital movies you purchase here will go to your favorite retailer.
If you are doing the math, that is roughly a little more than 76 days for $25. It is still a free $25 that can easily cover the cost of a UHD or HDX Movies Anywhere Movie. Plus, Microsoft often offers discounts on their $5 and $10 gift cards for 4000 and 8000 points respectively. I had been saving my rewards for a digital movie and lucked out to get this deal because of Memorial Day weekend.
You can also earn points towards other rewards like Amazon, AMC Theatres, Walmart, Regal Entertainment, Target, and a few other retailer gift cards. I included retailers where you might add to your movie collection. Some might ask if it is worth the few minutes a day to earn points over weeks to get rewarded. I can't answer that for you but I will enjoy my latest purchase by doing it.
Amazon No Rush Shipping
This program is also not like Disney or Sony but I wanted to include it as it is still a way to earn money to getting free movies. Each time you order from Amazon, you can choose No Rush delivery. In many cases, it will only delay your shipment a few days. This will earn you a $1 each shipment towards a digital purchase which includes movies. Be careful with this as the $1 will expire but if you order several items, you can save on the purchase of a digital movie. Be sure to look for movies that are Movies Anywhere compatible unless you use Amazon as your primary streaming retailer. I have found several movies cheaper or on sale at Amazon making my movie purchase less than a $1 or free in some cases.
