Not My Usual Movie
Dora and the Lost City of Gold is not a typically movie I would pick up but a good friend of mine suggested it. My kids watch Dora The Explorer a little when they were growing up so I was a little familiar with the characters. We are seeing more live action movies get their source material from animated TV shows or movies. A true sign of the times that there are very few original stories out there. I shudder at the idea of someone making a live action Barney (the dinosaur) movie unless they made it into a horror movie.
Review
Similar to Frozen 2, the movie has matured from the source material to make it for the children who watched the original TV show. I thought they did a very good job of incorporating the TV show mythology into the movie. The movie is a bit slow (for lack of a better word) during the first half of the movie but if you stick with it, it does not disappoint. In the end, I was okay with adding this movie into my collection.
Rating
I would rate this a solid SD movie. It is worth getting in HD for $5 unless you are a fan of the show. I was able to get my HD copy for $8 from Family Video.
