Disney+ On Disc

 


Change Is Coming

Recently Disney+ has been cancelling content like the Willow series among other content on their service. This has given me pause as to what will happen to this content if you want to watch it. Series like the Mandalorian and the final season of Clone Wars were on available through the streaming service. The new idea that this content might eventually be removed from the service to never be seen again was a real possibility. Now we have some hope.

I recently received an emailed from Marvel Entertainment. Generally, I would take a quick look and discard it but this one I had to look into more. The link pointed towards Best Buy or Walmart to preorder but I did find Loki Season 1 and WandaVision Season 1 available on Amazon. My hopes started to get raised.

So with some quick searches, I did find in fact the Mandalorian Season 1 and 2 will be released on disc later this year. Here are the release dates per the email and what I found at the retailers.
  • Loki - September 26, 2023
  • WandaVision - November 28, 2023
  • Mandalorian Season 1 and 2 - December 12, 2023

The official releases will show the studio as LUCASFILM or MARVEL. There are some unofficial copies listed but don't be fooled. While this is great news for those of us that would like to add these to our collections, Disney is definitely trying to cash in. First thing to notice is that these do NOT include digital copies. Why should they since it came from a streaming service? Common decency I would say but I understand their point. Second thing to notice is the price is $50 per season.

WandaVision had 9 episodes. Loki had 6 episodes. Mandalorian had 8 episodes per season. Will we see Mandalorian season 3 released on disc? If so, when will it be released?

I applaud Disney for figuring out consumers would like to see their shows on disc so that they never disappear. It would be nice to see digital copies to go with them at that price especially when you are paying close to $10 an episode for Loki. Hopefully we see other shows from Disney+ get released on dics. I know I will pick up Mandalorian and any other Star Wars series on disc once the price gets reasonable. I have Clone Wars season 1-6 on disc now and would like to complete the set with an official copy from Disney but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Hopefully some of the content Disney+ has removed will find its way to disc as well. I was interested in seeing the Willow series. I apparently waited too long. At least now there is hope that Disney will release this content on disc in the future.

Avengers: Endgame - Review

Movie Review - Spoiler Free I will try to keep this a spoiler free review. First, I would like to applaud Disney/Marvel for making a movie over the 2 hour limit that most movies have kept themselves to lately. The movie would have felt rushed if it was only 2 hours. The movie starts out appropriately timed to the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The movie kept you emotional invested throughout the entire movie. There was some predictability with the story but for the most part, I was able to enjoy the ride without knowing what would happen next. This to me made the movie extremely enjoyable. We get see how the characters deal with the aftermath of the Infinity War and what their options are moving forward. Each character was given their opportunity on screen during the movie. This is obviously easier to do since there are fewer characters after the events of Infinity War. I felt that many characters had an appropriate conclusion to their stories. Digital Ownership

 What Is? With the digital revolution, digital media has been sweeping the world. My memory of digital media was back with iTunes in 2001. There you could download music with a touch of a button from an actual retailer vs illegally with the bonus of malware to your computer. I actually had digital music from iTunes before I had a iPod or iPhone to play it on. In 2005, Apple released their video iPod and started to "sell" digital TV and movies. I am not saying Apple was the foundation for the digital revolution but it was my first positive experience with digital media.
