End of Rewards Era

 General

2024 has seen the end of many of the rewards programs that I have used over the years. Whether due to the economic times or other reasons, below are all the programs that have come to an end. I find this extremely disappointing since many have provided me with free movies or extremely affordable movies.

Universal All-Access Rewards

While not the first program to notify users of closing, Universal All-Access Rewards was the first to close on June 30. When you would buy a Universal movie, the digital card would have a code for the movie you purchased and generally included a code for 1000 points in their rewards program. These points could be used for a free digital movie or other digital items. You could also earn points on their site by watching movie trailers or taking trivia challenges.

They would generally have five to ten digital movies to select from each rolling couple of months. If you didn't like the selection, you could save your points for the next batch of digital movies. Shortly before they closed, they had dozens of movies to choose from. In the end, I had 967 points available. Support was understanding and gifted me the 33 points needed to redeem on last free movie before they closed. They also offered users a 40% discount code for their online movies. I did not take advantage of this offer before it expired.

Disney Movie Club

After 23 years, Disney Movie Club took final orders on May 20 and closed accounts July 20. During their final months, they offered a buy one item at regular price and get any additional items 60% off. My brother and I ordered several items in one large order including the newly released Disney Plus series like the Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Falcon & The Winter Soldier for $16 per season. Towards the end, you could find many of the Disney Movie Club exclusive movies on the Disney Movie Insider siter but I will get to that one later in the post.

Sony Rewards

Launched in 2017, Sony Rewards program is schedule to end December 31, 2024. A combination of gaming and movie collecting, rewards were issued in both points and passes. The movie passes gave you a free movie after purchasing five qualifying Sony movies in either disc or digital formats. I actually earned 14 free movies this way. Upon closing, the rewards program completed the last movie pass I was working on to give me a final free movie.

Disney Movie Insider

At the time of this writing, Disney Movie Insider is the latest program to be closing after 18 years. The program would give you points for Disney movie tickets, disc movie codes, and eventually include digital movies purchased. You could generally get between 50 and 200 points per ticket or movie that could be used to redeem towards other movies or merchandise. When Disney Movie Club closed, you could find several of their exclusives available on the Disney Movie Insider site. The site is scheduled to close on December 4, 2024. I am hopeful that they add rewards like they have every Wednesday in the past. I have over 2200 points to redeem and am hopefully to get a few more free movies added to my collection before they close their doors.

I have been fortunate to have used these rewards programs and several others throughout the years. They have been a great way to affordably grow my collection. I will greatly miss all these programs. It is unfortunate that there are no new programs like these appearing but who knows what the future will bring. Let me know what rewards programs you use that are still going strong or that I missed on this closing list.

Avengers: Endgame - Review

Movie Review - Spoiler Free I will try to keep this a spoiler free review. First, I would like to applaud Disney/Marvel for making a movie over the 2 hour limit that most movies have kept themselves to lately. The movie would have felt rushed if it was only 2 hours. The movie starts out appropriately timed to the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The movie kept you emotional invested throughout the entire movie. There was some predictability with the story but for the most part, I was able to enjoy the ride without knowing what would happen next. This to me made the movie extremely enjoyable. We get see how the characters deal with the aftermath of the Infinity War and what their options are moving forward. Each character was given their opportunity on screen during the movie. This is obviously easier to do since there are fewer characters after the events of Infinity War. I felt that many characters had an appropriate conclusion to their stories. The movie did leave me with a couple ...

Glass - Movie Review

History M. Night Shyamalan has made many movies that provide plot twists that are unusual. Unbreakable and Split are two such examples that surprisingly become part of the same universe. Unbreakable was released in 2000 by Walt Disney Studios. Split was released in 2017 by Universal Pictures. Glass is the third movie in the trilogy distributed jointly by Universal and Disney. M. Night Shyamalan’s movies were pretty reliable in the 1990s and early 2000s with movies like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and The Village. The Last Airbender in 2010 was horrible. With a rich story from the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, M. Night managed to destroy over 8 hours of great story telling by condensing it into a 103 minute movie. Not to mention how the characters names were mispronounce throughout the film. I could spend an entire post on how that movie destroyed a live action series. My children convinced me to purchase Split. I admit at the time of this post, I have yet to...

Once Upon A Deadpool Review

Movie Ratings The current PG13 rating allows the use a limited number of profanity words during the film otherwise the film will get an R rating.  Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were both rated R mostly for the profanity used throughout the movie in place of actual dialogue. I was not a big fan of these movies coming in at an R rating as it would reopen the door for other superhero movies to go for an R rating. My personal opinion was that profanity in a superhero movie would be overused like 3D because studios believed it was the key for the movie's success at the box office. It was not. The character was. In my opinion, I believe Logan was properly done as an R movie as it did not over use profanity in the movie. Many might believe that the Deadpool movies were the first R rated superhero movies. They were not.  All three Blade movies that came out in 1998, 2002, and 2004 respectively were the first R rated superhero movies. I believe these movies were also properly done lik...
