Jaws Series - Movie Review

Classic Movie Series

I found myself recently watching the Jaws series again. While Jaws and Jaws 2 could have their own reviews, the other movies were not as fortunate. Rather than depriving you of my thoughts, I decided to bundle the movie reviews together. Funny fact that I remember from my youth was that my parents got a waterbed shortly after Jaws came out. I poked fun at them about a shark coming out of their bed. I think Wes Craven heard me and used it for his series of movies. Just kidding, I am sure he didn't hear me.

Jaws

I would say the first was the best by far. The movie did a great job of keeping suspense. This worked out for the making of the film as it kept costs low by not showing too much of the main character until the end. Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss have great chemistry during their "fishing charter". This movie launch three more films.

I give this a HD rating. This is a classic that should be in everyone's collection for under $10. I believe I picked up the Blu-ray with digital copy for under $10 for a box store back in 2016.

Jaws 2

The second movie is also the second best in the franchise. The suspense is gone as the similar elements are used as the first to recapture the magic. Roy Scheider is back but character is seeing monsters everywhere. In his character's case, there is a monster everywhere teasing him. The story is good showing what happens when someone starts seeing monsters everywhere. There is a some suspense but more towards the end of the film and not consistent throughout. Overall, a good movie.

I give this a low HD rating. I questioned getting the last three films but could not resist when they had all three bundled with digital copy for $15. I leave it up the reader if you want to be a completist with this franchise.

Jaws 3

With Dennis Quaid, Louis Gossett, Jr, and a young Lea Thompson cast, what could go wrong? The first fad with 3D movies. The idea of a third movie in 3D must have not been a hard pitch. The story was not horrible but I feel the focus on grossing people out with 3D gore ended up hurting the movie. You can easily make out what was intended to pop out the screen even without the 3D effect. Even though I enjoyed the cast, they could not protect the movie from the special effects. This movie my least favorite movie in the franchise.

I give this a solid SD rating specifically because the 3D was the focus for the movie. The movie comes in the three pack if you decide to be a completist with the series.

Jaws The Revenge

Nothing against Dennis Quaid but I feel Lance Guest did a much better portrayal of Michael Brody as an adult. Adding to the movie was the return of Lorraine Gray as Ellen Brody. Michael Caine and Mario Van Peebles round out the all star cast.

Archive footage from the original Jaws makes this movie more cannon as the third movie in the franchise than the actual Jaws 3. Proving my point that even the studio thought the third film was the worst. I felt this movie did a great job at closing the chapter on the series. I would have made this film number two on the list but the budget must have been tiny as the main character looked worse than in any of the other films in the franchise.

I only give this a low HD rating due to the low budget shark. I highly recommend watching at least 1, 2, and The Revenge if you have an interest in the series.

Avengers: Endgame - Review

Movie Review - Spoiler Free I will try to keep this a spoiler free review. First, I would like to applaud Disney/Marvel for making a movie over the 2 hour limit that most movies have kept themselves to lately. The movie would have felt rushed if it was only 2 hours. The movie starts out appropriately timed to the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The movie kept you emotional invested throughout the entire movie. There was some predictability with the story but for the most part, I was able to enjoy the ride without knowing what would happen next. This to me made the movie extremely enjoyable. We get see how the characters deal with the aftermath of the Infinity War and what their options are moving forward. Each character was given their opportunity on screen during the movie. This is obviously easier to do since there are fewer characters after the events of Infinity War. I felt that many characters had an appropriate conclusion to their stories. The movie did leave me with a couple ...

Glass - Movie Review

History M. Night Shyamalan has made many movies that provide plot twists that are unusual. Unbreakable and Split are two such examples that surprisingly become part of the same universe. Unbreakable was released in 2000 by Walt Disney Studios. Split was released in 2017 by Universal Pictures. Glass is the third movie in the trilogy distributed jointly by Universal and Disney. M. Night Shyamalan’s movies were pretty reliable in the 1990s and early 2000s with movies like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and The Village. The Last Airbender in 2010 was horrible. With a rich story from the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, M. Night managed to destroy over 8 hours of great story telling by condensing it into a 103 minute movie. Not to mention how the characters names were mispronounce throughout the film. I could spend an entire post on how that movie destroyed a live action series. My children convinced me to purchase Split. I admit at the time of this post, I have yet to...

Once Upon A Deadpool Review

Movie Ratings The current PG13 rating allows the use a limited number of profanity words during the film otherwise the film will get an R rating.  Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were both rated R mostly for the profanity used throughout the movie in place of actual dialogue. I was not a big fan of these movies coming in at an R rating as it would reopen the door for other superhero movies to go for an R rating. My personal opinion was that profanity in a superhero movie would be overused like 3D because studios believed it was the key for the movie's success at the box office. It was not. The character was. In my opinion, I believe Logan was properly done as an R movie as it did not over use profanity in the movie. Many might believe that the Deadpool movies were the first R rated superhero movies. They were not.  All three Blade movies that came out in 1998, 2002, and 2004 respectively were the first R rated superhero movies. I believe these movies were also properly done lik...
