Justice League: The Snyder Cut - Movie Review

HBOMax

I have to mention HBOMax if I am to properly review Justice League: The Snyder Cut as this is the only place you will be able to watch the movie. I am hoping it will be released digitally sometime in the future. So HBOMax is streaming new movies the same time as they are released in theaters. Wonder Woman 1984 was released in December. Justice League: The Snyder Cut and Godzilla vs Kong release this month. April we will see a new Mortal Kombat. The Suicie Squad will reelase in August. Dune will come out in October. Finally, the currently untitled Matrix movies will come out in December.

At $15 per month where you can cancel anytime, HBOMax is like the price of a peak time movie ticket at a good theater. Granted you can go to the theater during matinees times for cheaper tickets but you are still limited to when you watch and no ability to pause. Since Justice League: The Snyder Cut was released, HBOMax has removed their free trial offer on their website. I had received one from a purchase at Best Buy. Perhaps there are other opportunities to get a free trial. If so, I would recommend you use them to see what HBOMax has to offer you.

Review

My first impression without spoiling the movie was why did they prefer it to be shown in 4:3 aspect ratio instead of 16:9 or even widescreen. I grew up before 16:9 televisions were the normal. Even back then, I preferred widescreen movies on VHS (yes, I am dating myself with that comment). I did not like how movies were chopped up for 4:3 (pan and scan) but in this case, over half the movie was new. I say this with confidence as the movie has a 4+ hour run time. So I don't feel the 4:3 hurt the movie but it was strange.

Being a 4+ hour movie, I felt there could have been parts shorted or removed but in the end, the movie moved at a good pace with one or two minor exceptions. The characters felt more like they were in the DC Universe with it being a very dark movie. The movie would get a R rating for language but it was not abuse like some films (Deadpool, lol). I have to admit with the new cut of the film, I actually liked Ezra Miller's Flash character. Don't get me wrong, Grant Gustin is a much better Flash but the new cut allowed me to appreciate Ezra's portrayal.

In a turn of events, I actually felt they took Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman down a much darker path than I have ever seen in that character. She was not a villain but I definitely questioned some of the things she did. Ray Fisher's Cyborg definitely was explored more fully in this cut of the film. The dynamic between Batman and Superman was much better presented in my opinion.

I did watch this movie over the course of two nights due to interruptions but I feel that helped me to enjoy the movie more than trying to watch all 4+ hours at once. Watching the movie, you will understand when you can pause and come back without any issues. The one issue I do want to mention is that the movie ended with not one but two possible stories that could be in the next movie (if they are released). Otherwise, it was a good movie. Like all previous DC movies with extend version, the extended version is always better than the original. I hope Warner Brothers figures that out and allows the movies to be extended when releases vs waiting until they come out on disc or digital.

Rating

I would give this a HD rating. I hope this movie comes out for purchase. I would especially pick this up if it was under $10 or even possibly $15. Knowing my luck, I will probably pick it up for $20 if they ever release it. lol

Avengers: Endgame - Review

Movie Review - Spoiler Free I will try to keep this a spoiler free review. First, I would like to applaud Disney/Marvel for making a movie over the 2 hour limit that most movies have kept themselves to lately. The movie would have felt rushed if it was only 2 hours. The movie starts out appropriately timed to the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The movie kept you emotional invested throughout the entire movie. There was some predictability with the story but for the most part, I was able to enjoy the ride without knowing what would happen next. This to me made the movie extremely enjoyable. We get see how the characters deal with the aftermath of the Infinity War and what their options are moving forward. Each character was given their opportunity on screen during the movie. This is obviously easier to do since there are fewer characters after the events of Infinity War. I felt that many characters had an appropriate conclusion to their stories. The movie did leave me with a couple ...

Glass - Movie Review

History M. Night Shyamalan has made many movies that provide plot twists that are unusual. Unbreakable and Split are two such examples that surprisingly become part of the same universe. Unbreakable was released in 2000 by Walt Disney Studios. Split was released in 2017 by Universal Pictures. Glass is the third movie in the trilogy distributed jointly by Universal and Disney. M. Night Shyamalan’s movies were pretty reliable in the 1990s and early 2000s with movies like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and The Village. The Last Airbender in 2010 was horrible. With a rich story from the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, M. Night managed to destroy over 8 hours of great story telling by condensing it into a 103 minute movie. Not to mention how the characters names were mispronounce throughout the film. I could spend an entire post on how that movie destroyed a live action series. My children convinced me to purchase Split. I admit at the time of this post, I have yet to...

Once Upon A Deadpool Review

Movie Ratings The current PG13 rating allows the use a limited number of profanity words during the film otherwise the film will get an R rating.  Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were both rated R mostly for the profanity used throughout the movie in place of actual dialogue. I was not a big fan of these movies coming in at an R rating as it would reopen the door for other superhero movies to go for an R rating. My personal opinion was that profanity in a superhero movie would be overused like 3D because studios believed it was the key for the movie's success at the box office. It was not. The character was. In my opinion, I believe Logan was properly done as an R movie as it did not over use profanity in the movie. Many might believe that the Deadpool movies were the first R rated superhero movies. They were not.  All three Blade movies that came out in 1998, 2002, and 2004 respectively were the first R rated superhero movies. I believe these movies were also properly done lik...
