Movie Ratings
The current PG13 rating allows the use a limited number of profanity words during the film otherwise the film will get an R rating. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were both rated R mostly for the profanity used throughout the movie in place of actual dialogue. I was not a big fan of these movies coming in at an R rating as it would reopen the door for other superhero movies to go for an R rating. My personal opinion was that profanity in a superhero movie would be overused like 3D because studios believed it was the key for the movie's success at the box office. It was not. The character was.
In my opinion, I believe Logan was properly done as an R movie as it did not over use profanity in the movie. Many might believe that the Deadpool movies were the first R rated superhero movies. They were not. All three Blade movies that came out in 1998, 2002, and 2004 respectively were the first R rated superhero movies. I believe these movies were also properly done like Logan with their use of profanity. As a side note, Ryan Reynolds appeared in Blade: Trinity and Blade is also a Marvel license.
Spoilers
In case you were not aware, Once Upon A Deadpool is actually Deadpool 2 as a PG13 movie. Deadpool tells the movie to Fred Savage using a recreated bedroom set from The Princes Bride. I will give the banter between Fred and Deadpool positive reviews especially with Fred saying he has never seen the first movie and that it doesn't count as a Marvel movie because it was made by 20th Century Fox. The conversation between scenes are actually funny poking more fun at Disney and the movie itself.
Deadpool has a hand held bleeper for profanity during the bedroom scenes. It is used during one scene that makes you believe Fred is using the "F" bomb when in fact he is saying the word fight. The word fudge is used throughout the movie to replace all the other profanity used. There are many innuendos throughout the PG13 movie. Many of these changes are done easily as Deadpool's mask hides the original words used in the film.
My Review
When I watched Deadpool 2, I felt they left most of the funny scenes for the just before and during the credits. This PG13 version was refreshing mainly because of the new scenes with Fred throughout the film were funnier than the movie itself. Several scenes were expanded, deleted scenes such as the X-Men closing a door to a side room were added, and several scenes were removed to keep the new rating.
Until this version, I did not realize Brad Pitt had a cameo as the Vanisher. Fred talks about the lazy writing and how bad the movie is but is surprised by the emotional ending. I believe Deadpool 2 was not as good as the first movie but the additional scenes in Once Upon A Deadpool have made the movie worth watching multiple times. If you want to watch the best version of Deadpool 2, I would recommend Once Upon A Deadpool.
